Full Spectrum CBD Oil vs. CBD Isolate
The most common CBD products on the market today are CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD oil. Exploring the differences of these two may seem overwhelming. However, it’s a lot less complicated than you think. For those starting their CBD journey, understanding the differences between CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD oil will better equip you to make an educated decision on which CBD oil product is best for you.
Full Spectrum CBD oil (HealthNaturally Products only Contain Full Spectrum CBD oil)
First let’s start with the cannabis sativa plant. There are over 100 different phytocannabinoids (“phyto” means plant) that organically exist within the cannabis plant. Along with these phytocannabinoids, the cannabis plant contains terpenes, flavonoids, and a number of health promoting nutrients. CBD is the second most prominent phytocannabinoid found naturally occurring in cannabis, while THC is the first [1,2]. Full spectrum CBD oil generally refers to CBD products that contain the full or whole plant which includes everything the plant has to offer.
- Phytocannabinoids - THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, CBDA, THCA, and more.
- Terpenes - essential aromatic oil compounds found in a variety of plants. They help enhance the powerful medical benefits found in cannabis.
- Flavonoids - essential antioxidants that help with inflammation, allergies, and more.
- Vitamins - a group of natural compounds that promote nutrition in the body, such as A, C, E, and B complex.
- And many other beneficial components.
When all these elements are intertwined, they begin to work synergistically, producing the“entourage effect” –– taking all the individual therapeutic components of the plant together so as to enhance the medicinal impact it has on the body [3].
CBD Isolate (HealthNaturally Does not use Isolate)
CBD Isolate, on the other hand contains nothing else but CBD. Products labeled isolate will generally be labeled as 99% pure CBD [3]. It’s important to note that isolate CBD oil does not have the benefits or advantages of the entourage effect. It is the preferred choice for users who personally, medically, legally, and professionally can’t have trace amounts of THC in their system.
Which is better? Isolate or full spectrum?
The Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem conducted a study in two groups of mice to see the effectiveness between CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD. The first group of mice received CBD isolate, while the second group received full spectrum. Researchers concluded that the group of mice that received full spectrum CBD received higher levels of pain relief than the group that received CBD isolate [4]. From this study, it’s clear that most science leans in favor of full spectrum CBD. This study and many others with similar results is why we at HealthNaturally only use Full Spectrum Oil in our products.
